Warning: Do not do this unless you actually have enough spare RAM else you'll just hurt your performance!

Warning: I assume you know enough to change drive letters and paths (especially in the batfiles in step 2) to match your setup. Also I have no idea if this works properly with dual accounts running off same EVE client but I couldn't see why it shouldn't.

I've thought about this on several occasions but didn't try it until I saw an EO forum thread about it. Been using it now for the entirety of this year and it is totally KICKS ASS.

Ever noticed small pauses when EVE has to retrieve info? Could be showing info, opening mail, wallet, market etc. - a lot of these slowdowns are a mix between fetching data from the server and displaying it using cached information. The cache folder is basically a shitload of small files = you'll get slow downs in terms of performance in EVE due to searching of files and constantly reading and writing a lot of them. It wont increase your maximum FPS but could affect your average - although it's not intended for FPS but for general performance of EVE.

1) Get the free Sysinternals (now Microsoft) tool called Junction and put it in c:\windows\system32
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/FileAndDisk/Junction.mspx <-- Webpage, find download

2) Get http://miklos.clanhost.dk/misc/gp.rar and extract it to c:\windows\system32 too. (it's a rar file containing 2 bat files, one we run at startup of windows and one at shutdown.

3) Get Ramdisk Plus from http://www.superspeed.com/download/trialversions.php

Install it using this serial:

Name : for 9down by opossum
Key : M1X46-KXXKZ-Q42BP-LR1TV-41WBQ

After installation go to control panel and click the new icon named 'Ram Disk Devices' -> Click 'Add' -> Choose the following options:

Size: 256
Drive Letter: R
Type: NTFS
Enable File Compressions: Yes
Image File Drive Root: C:\ (or which ever disk you have 256MB space free on)
Save at system shutdown: Yes

This 256MB Ramdisk will be stored when you shutdown/reboot windows. Ofc. not if you coldboot your machine. When Windows starts up again it'll load the imagefile (with the saved contents) so you are ready to go - almost.

Once the Ramdisk is online (check My Computer) you go to you EVE cache folder and backup the settings folder along with your prefs.ini file. Now delete everything here and copy your backup of the settings folder and prefs.ini onto your ramdisk. Your cache folder should now be completely empty but the ramdisk have your settings folder and the prefs.ini.

Go to your start menu and click 'Run' - open 'gpedit.msc' and browse to 'User Configuration' -> 'Windows Settings' -> 'Scripts (Logon/Logoff). In Logon add the evelogon.bat file (from step 2 - via browse) and in logoff add the evelogoff.bat file (also from step 2). If you extracted the 2 files in step 2 correctly this is really easy.

Once this is all done, manully run the evelogon.bat file - browse to you EVE cache folder and check out if it displays the settings and prefs.ini file from the ramdrive - if not you messed up

Finish with a reboot

P.S. Remeber that we nuked the cache (for your own good) so the first time you show something it wont seem faster as you are fetching data and generating pics again. Once you have rebuild your cache you'll feel the boost

Quote:
If you are running XP Home gpedit.msc is not available and you have to run evelogon manually before you run EVE the first time after a reboot and evelogoff before you reboot/shutdown.
